Heartbreaking News on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The number of fatalities due to the UPS cargo plane which burst into flames and went down has now risen to 13, per latest announcements.

Mayor's Announcement

“On my way to the Workers’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a 13th person that lost their life as a consequence of the aircraft crash,” wrote the municipal leader in a social media post. “My thoughts is with the families, companions and colleagues of all who were taken in this week’s tragedy. We will get through this as one.”

Victims Named

A release from the company identified the flight crew on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies are extended to every UPSer who has been impacted and all in our community region – assisting you and guaranteeing you obtain the care and aid you need is our focus,” the organization’s statement expressed.

Inquiry Findings

National investigators revealed that the jet’s wing caught fire and an engine separated just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, leading to the aircraft to crash and explode into a fireball.

The safety agency announced it is examining the plane’s service record, that was in the state for repairs a period prior to the crash.

Aviation data indicated the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are aware that this plane was located in the facility,” remarked an investigator on the following day, not giving a precise time frame. “We will review each aspect of repairs that was done, including the repair visit, straight to the date of the journey.”

Recovery of Critical Components

The audio device and data recorder were retrieved, and the engine was discovered on the airfield.

The devices – known as flight recorders – were designed to survive accident forces and extreme temperatures from blazes, and they appeared to be undamaged when discovered within the crash debris. Officials plan on reviewing data from the devices.

Aircraft’s final flight details indicated an altitude of that level and a rate of 210 mph prior to the crash.

Maintenance History

According to aviation authority files dated 18 September, a fissure on a component inside the fuel container required maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it supplies airframe maintenance for the carrier’s MD-11 and runs a maintenance center in that city, declined to speak, but expressed it would assist completely when officials approached it.

Operations Resume

Meanwhile, the hub activities resumed last night with its overnight or nighttime process, representative the company official confirmed. The three tarmacs at the aviation hub were also open again.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the organization’s largest. The center hires over a large number of individuals in the locality, handles numerous trips daily and sorts more than 400,000 parcels per hour.

Community Reaction

A memorial was held on the night of that date by the local labor union, which supports staff at the aviation hub, the company’s biggest shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which stands for staff, commenced the gathering with a quiet tribute at that time, the rough moment of the accident previously.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the leader told the assembly of 200. “No one had a chance to say goodbye to any of those who we have mourned.”
